The term smaller souls refer to the eternal consiousness of natural geologic elements, which are individualized but feel “fainter” than the planet’s core. They are often personified as their planet’s children in art and literature.

Beholders who perform tasks on behalf of these forms are called Intercessories. While there are theoretically limitless types relationships between Beholders and the smaller souls, the most common tend to be:

Drayds: Beholders with a connection to trees, groves, and forests. Trees are stereotyped as the most emotionally intelligent lifeform of the smaller souls. They are able to make complicated requests of Intercessories. and are known for their love of murder (mostly of humans).

Ereids: Beholders with a connection to bodies of saltwater. The largest and “quietest” of the smaller souls. Difficult to connect with, as there is little they need.

Naiads: Beholders with a connection to bodies of fresh water. Motivated by help with obstacles. Easiest to connect with, but anxious. Naiads

Oreads: Beholders with a connection to mountains. Have the longest memories and hold grudges.

Nephelae: Beholders with a connection to clouds and rain. Motivated by praise. Easiest to connect with.
